At the 8th Edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII8) held at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Center in Riyadh, NewGlobe’s co-founder, Jay Kimmelman, participated in a thought-provoking panel discussion on “What Are the New Models Accelerating Educational Outcomes?” The session focused on how emerging educational models, powered by technological advancements and personalized learning, are reshaping the way students are prepared for the future.
During his remarks, Kimmelman emphasized the importance of taking a holistic approach to transforming education in the Global South. He pointed out that addressing a full spectrum of challenges—ranging from providing research-backed lesson plans for teachers to ensuring accountability in classrooms—is crucial for driving lasting impact. “Every layer of the system matters for lasting impact,” Kimmelman stated.
One of the key topics of discussion was the need to adapt tech solutions in regions where basic infrastructure, such as stable electricity or internet, is often lacking. Kimmelman noted, “In regions where 90% of schools lack stable electricity or internet, tech solutions must adapt. It’s about leveraging the latest innovations in a way that meets the realities on the ground, ensuring every child, everywhere, has access to quality learning.”
Kimmelman also highlighted the foundational role of data in driving AI’s potential in education. “AI in education must start with the basics: data. In many regions, we lack foundational information to measure student progress, limiting our ability to personalize learning. Building this data foundation is key for equitable education globally,” he said.
In his closing remarks, Kimmelman emphasized that the ultimate goal is to create a responsive education system, where data drives decision-making to meet students where they are and accelerate their learning journey. “The goal is a responsive education system where data guides us in meeting students where they are and accelerating their journey to success,” he concluded.
NewGlobe’s continued focus on leveraging data, technology, and evidence-based models is helping to close the foundational learning gap. As Kimmelman highlighted, “Today, 70% of children in low- and middle-income countries cannot read. The challenge? Closing this foundational learning gap. Technology and data are essential tools, not as substitutes for teachers but as enhancers to guide and accelerate student progress.”
NewGlobe remains committed to empowering educators and governments with the tools, data, and resources necessary to transform education and ensure that every child can reach their full potential.
